Dialogues from a movie industry in a state of emergency

The virus has infected everything and has meant we have had to come to a complete standstill, and for too long a time.

The D’A Film Festival Barcelona, in a necessary plot twist, has decided to go ahead online. That is why the Professional Workshops that we were planning for this edition have also undergone a change of scene and subject matter to take a topical look at the status quo of the film industry.

The crisis has also meant that three major festivals in the city have come together in unprecedented fashion: the D’A Film Festival Barcelona (30 April to 10 May), DocsBarcelona (20 to 30 May) and L’Alternativa – Festival de Cinema Independent de Barcelona (16 to 22 November).

The D’A Film Festival Barcelona will get under way with a series of dialogues designed to consider and analyse the current environment in which we are working, outlining present and future ideas and projects and analysing some of the solutions and initiatives that have so suddenly sprouted, out of necessity, in the movie industry during such uncertain times.

During May 4th and 5th two encounters will be hold opened to registered participants between leading professionals in the sector at which they share their own views and those of the companies they work for, and these two meetings along other prerecorded material will be posted on Thursday 7 May 2020 on the D’A Film Festival Barcelona YouTube channel and on the MEDIA Catalunya channel.

The subjects of these virtual talks and debates will be taken up again, and expanded upon and diversified, at DocsBarcelona Industry and L’Alternativa Pro, creating a continuous thread of shared thought over time.

We will start at the D’A Film Festival Barcelona but it is then: to be continued…
