The jury of the official section of the festival is awarding the Talents prize (of 6000 euros) to Village Rockstars by female director Rima Das “for the brightness and simplicity of its portrait of an Indian girl’s passage into puberty over the course of the seasons”. The official jury of the festival was made up of movie, television and theatre actor Pablo Derqui, filmmaker and video artist Lois Patiño, and the programmer of the Seattle International Film Festival and artistic director of the Cine Latino Minneapolis Saint Paul, Hebe Tabachnick. The Talents award is presented to the best film in the section of the same name, formed by directors with fewer than two movies in their filmography.

The Talents jury also awarded two special mentions: to the film 3/4 by Bulgarian director Ilian Metev “for its creative staging and use of words in the construction of a family’s day-to-day life”, and to Catalan movie Con el viento directed by Meritxell Colell “for the relevance of a story that makes us think about the responsibilities that blood ties imply”.

The critics’ jury, made up of Ignasi Franch, Daniel Jiménez Pulido and Daniel Pérez Pamies, is presenting its award, in collaboration with the ACCEC (Asociación Catalana de Crítica y Escritura Cinematográfica) to Trinta Lumes directed by Diana Toucedo “for its dialogue between fantasy and documentary movies, conjuring up ghosts and capturing ways of life that in danger of extinction”.

The critics’ jury also made special mention of Ava by Iranian-Canadian director Sadaf Foroughi “for her mastery of a cinematographic tradition and for including a stimulating visual device in her social portrait”.

This is the first year of the Sala Jove Audience Award, a program specially designed for audiences aged between 16 and 25, who voted for Night is Short, Walk on Girl, the anime movie by Masaaki Yuasa, as their favourite.

The winner of the Audience Award, awarded on the basis of the votes cast by viewers of all the films on show at the festival, is for A Ciambra by Italian director Jonas Carpignano. This film will be screened at D’A 2018 Tour that begins on May 8, in which a selection of films from the festival will be taken to nine Catalan towns and cities, and a further eight venues elsewhere in Spain.
