Is our pleasure to announce the new incorporations in the programming of D’A 2017. For example, the premiere in Spain of two highlighted films of the independent scene: 20th Century Women (EE UU 2016) directed by Mike Mills (director of Beginners and Thumbsucker among others), starred by Greta Gerwig, Elle Fanning and Bill Crudup, 20th Century Women has received a nomination for best script in the Oscars and the Independent Spirit Awards and a nomination for leading actress in the Golden Globes.
Also premiering in D’A 2017 is Free Fire from cult director Ben Wheatley (director of High Rise, Turistas or Kill List). Starring a premium cast that includes Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer and the usual Michael Smiley, the movie premiered worldwide in the Toronto International Film Festival and has been in other festivals in London, Rotterdam or the SXSW in Austin. Maybe this is his most accessible movie but it doesn’t leaves aside his trademark: the absurd violence, black humor and character studies to the limit. All of this with some tarantinesque touch that fit the fable of a plot that mixes the IRA and the mafia in a weapon purchase operation.
More incorporations: the premier of the winner of the 2016 Venice Golden Lion’s The Woman Who Left from the master of the Filipino cinema Lav Diaz, O Ornitólogo of the Portuguese João Pedro Rodrigues, whom with this movie won Lorcano’s 2016 best director and the catalan premier of Júlia ist, directed and starred by Elena Martín, whom we met as the leading actress in de Las amigas de Àgata two years ago.
