The jury has declared that the awarded film is worthy of recognition due to “the directors capacity to be in front and behind the cameras, with a freshness and freedom that it transmits to the audience”. The Talents is given under the section named after it, showing the films of directors with less than three feature films in their filmography and its endowed with 6,000 euros given to the director of the winning film. The director Hadas Ben Aroya has visited Barcelona to present her film and will personally receive the award in the closing ceremony.
People That Are Not Me transmit with strength the way to understand love by a twenty-year-old today through the emotional tribulations of the protagonist and its also a vibrant panorama of life and the Tel-Aviv nights in which could reflect other contemporary cities.
The Critic Award for best movie given with the collaboration of ACCEC (Catalan Association of Film critics and Writers) goes to the movie El futuro perfecto (Argentina 2016) of German director and residing in Buenos Aires, Nele Wohlatz. The jury formed by critics Carlota Moseguí, Paula Arantzazu Ruiz and Javier Osuna, give the award to El futuro perfecto because “though a simple staging unfolds a series of issues of difficult articulation, from the miscommunication of the one who just arrived to a new country to the use of language as a tool for self-knowledge.
El futuro perfecto is a comedy that revolves around a Chinese girl that just arrived in Buenos Aires, where her parents lived, and starts her life in the Argentinian capital without almost speaking no Spanish. The language classes of the country begin to transform the relationship she has with her surroundings.
The jury also made a special mention to the movie of Enrique Baró, La película de nuestra vida, for “establishing a dialog of the memory, more than a nostalgic tale is a celebration of life”. La película de nuestra vida, starring Teodoro Barón Rey, Francesc Garrido and Nao Albet, is the film debut of Enrique Baró with a film that evokes the strength of images that remind of a lost time and keep at the same time the happiness of the past.
The Publics Choice Award, given from the votes of the audience to all the films of the festival, has been given to The Woman who Left by Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz. The director won the Golden Lion in Venice 2016.
