The fuckin’Burnin’ Percebes had been chasing the opportunity of a lifetime for quite some time: directing Curt D’A —their favorite festival, needless to say. After tormenting our director Carlos R. Ríos with absurd chases, we finally let them shoot their Martirio. A journey of political escapism to the planet Mars starring Carla Simón and Bruna Cusí… WHAT?!
Usually hiding behind the excuse of absurdity, the filmmakers admit they wanted to create “a tribute to Catalan cinema while also offering a critique of the conflicts that affect us most directly.” Burnin’ Percebes have a knack for hitting the sweet spot between biting criticism and the most intelligent kind of laughter. Congratulations on their martyrdom!
With Carla Simón in the role of Carla Simón, Bruna Cusí in the role of Bruna Cusí, Alex Ayres in the role of the expat and the (great) voice of David Verdaguer, eternal glory to the Burnin’ Percebes!
