She is an award-winning Japanese and American director and screenwriter. Her debut feature film Nomad Shadow world-premiered at the Toronto Film Festival after receiving support from the Sundance Directing and Screenwriting Fellowships and the Film Independent Directing Fellowship. Imanishi’s short film Battalion to My Beat won the Canal+ Award for Best International Short at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. She also received the 2021 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship through the New York Foundation for the Arts in Video/Film.
