FOCUS: AMAT ESCALANTE

This year’s retrospective is dedicated to Amat Escalante (1979(, Mexican director born in Barcelona and always present on international film festivals since his debut Sangre (2015), presented in the section Un Certain Regard of the Cannes Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI award. Since that moment he hasn’t stopped receiving awards like best director in Cannes for Hell (2013), the award Noves Visions section in the Sitges Film Festival for Los Bastardos (2008) and the Silver Lion in the last edition of the Venice Bienale for La region salvaje (2016). With the exception of Hell, none of his films –formed by for featured films, two short films and the collective film Revolución– was commercially released in Spain, so it’s presence in the D’A 2017 will be an opportunity to talk with the director of a piece that often awakes controversy and always plays with the gender of social subjects. The retrospective is dedicated to Amat Escalante is made with the collaboration of Filmoteca de Catalunya.
