The fifty films on show at the festival are distributed into different sections, with the main section, Directions, containing the finest productions of the year. The films in this section include some major names in independent contemporary cinema, such as the controversial new movie by Bruno Dumont (Outside Satan, France 2011); the latest project by Christophe Honoré (Beloved, France 2011), in which Jacques Demy seems to have been reincarnated, with Catherine Deneuve and Chiara Mastroianni; the new movie by US director Jonathan Caouette that once again explores openly his biography (Walk Away Renee, USA 2011); and Sangue do meu sangue (Portugal, 2011) by Joao Canijo, the latest winner of the Fipresci award in San Sebastian. Also on show are new films from such renowned masters as Johnnie To (Life Without Principle, Hong Kong 2011), the outstanding figure in new Hong Kong cinema and L’Apollonide by Bertrand Bonello (France, 2011), the cult director who has yet to feature on Spanish screens.
