La furia, the feature-length fiction debut of Catalan director Gemma Blasco, will open the 15th edition of the D’A – Barcelona Film Festival on March 27. The film tells the story of a young woman’s process of channelling her pain and anger after being raped, and the dark path taken by her brother, in whom she seeks refuge and where she only finds incomprehension. A modern tragedy with a personal look at sexual violence, disgust and shame starring Ángela Cervantes (winner of two Gaudí Awards for best supporting actress for Chavalas and La maternal) and Àlex Monner (Los niños salvajes, La propera pell). A film that its director has shot with a firm pulse and rage, and which confirms her as one of the new talents of cinema made in Spain. For the occasion, D’A 2025 returns to the Aribau 5 room for the screening of its opening film.

La furia will have its world premiere at the South by Southwest festival in Austin (Texas), one of the most influential film, music and television festivals in the United States, and will then have its Spanish premiere in the Official Section of the Malaga Festival. La furia is a production by Ringo Media and has the participation of RTVE, 3Cat, Aragón TV, Filmin and is financed by the ICAA, the Government of Aragon and ICEC. It is distributed by Filmax. The film was part of the D’A Film Lab Barcelona 2023.

Gemma Blasco is not a newcomer: her first feature film, the experimental film El Zoo, had its Catalan premiere at D’A 2019. Her short film Jauría premiered in 2018 at the Malaga Festival and received the SGAE-Nova Autoría award for best director at the Sitges Festival.
