Between Spain and Algeria, Soumaya reconnects with her family and heritage. Through laughter, prayer, and memory, three generations of women weave threads across distance, belief, and tradition.

Soumaya Hidalgo Djahdou
She is an artist with a multicultural background and formal education in four languages. Her work seeks to bridge cultural divides. Driven by her interest in preserving her grandmother’s fading Berber dialect, she began research that evolved into her first documentary, The Flight of the Stork, awarded at the 2024 Documenta Madrid market.

Berta Vicente Salas
She holds a Master’s in Documentary Cinema from the EICTV in Cuba and a degree in Humanities from the Open University of Catalonia. She was a speaker at TEDxYouth and was recognized by Flickr as one of the best twenty photographers under 20 years old. A Pulitzer Center grantee, she is currently combining long-term photographic projects with cinematography and the development of a non-fiction film. Berta’s work focuses on themes that intertwine memory, the construction of identity, and the banalization of violence against bodies and nature.
