Niño de Elche canta el cine mudo

Cinema Concert Spain Catalan Premiere

Synopsis

Niño de Elche, transgressive singer, experimenter and indisputable innovator of flamenco, faces two emblematic pieces of surrealist cinema by Buñuel and Germaine Dulac, heterodox creators whom the musician hacks at will. Niño de Elche works on Un perro andaluz and La concha y el clérigo, two free and iconic films, where there were already artistic collaborations that went beyond cinema: Buñuel collaborated with Dalí and Dulac with Antonin Artaud. The artist from Elche collects this testimony, and as always in his work, starts from tradition to twist it, bring new light and move away from purism. Self-defining as an ex-flamenco, in addition to albums and concerts, he has made installations, performances, collaborated with a multitude of artists and approached the cinema. All this baggage culminates in this dialogue with silent cinema, a concert cinema proposal far removed from conventions, using films more as a scenic and theatrical element than as a canvas to illustrate. The show had its world premiere at the Asturian Semana del Audiovisual Contemporáneo festival in Oviedo.
