This year the D’A 2025 celebrates its 15th anniversary and therefore we thought it appropriate to give not one D’A Award, but two D’A 2025 Awards! It will be received by two authors who have stood out for their trajectory and influence in contemporary cinema, masters in what they do and very different in their themes and trajectories. On the one hand, the Frenchman Bruno Dumont will receive the D’A 2025 award, and will hold a dialogue about his work and career. His work, always unclassifiable, is marked by a radical exploration of the human condition and a surprising mix of mysticism, irony and brutality, since his debut with The Life of Jesus (1997), with which he won the Cámara d’Or in Cannes, in works such as Hors Satan, Jeannette. The childhood of Joan of Arc or his new film, L’imperi, a galactic extravaganza that will be presented at the D’A.

The second winner of the 2025 D’A Award is British director Joanna Hogg, to whom D’A dedicated its 2023 retrospective. She owed us a visit, and taking advantage of her time in Europe, she’ll be coming to the festival to receive a well-deserved award and give a talk about her work. We already know that Joanna Hogg is one of the most stimulating figures on the contemporary scene, but we’re also fans to the point of buying T-shirts with her name on them! From her debut film, she captures the female experience as a feeling of dislocation that also relates to her place in cinema. The Souvenirs I and II established her as a leading figure, and as her career progresses, it’s clear that we’re witnessing an increasingly daring filmmaker.

Honor D’A Award to Béla Tarr

A master of filmmakers, the D’A – Barcelona Film Festival didn’t want to miss the opportunity to award a special prize on its 15th anniversary to Hungarian director Béla Tarr. Author of titanic works that are now part of the world heritage, such as Sátántangó and Werckmeister Harmonies, he made The Turin Horse (2011) his final ride. In his work, he dissects the social machinery so thoroughly that it ultimately shows us the collapse of relationships, the isolation and ruin of individuals deprived of the privileges of everyday life. Since his formal retirement from directing, he has continued to travel the world illuminating the filmmakers of the future. That’s why the D’A is awarding him this exceptional D’A Honorary Award, which will be accompanied by a masterclass for students.
