Synopsis

Soumaya, the daughter of a migrant Muslim woman, is immersed in an attempt to get closer to her roots and to Malika, her mother. She asks Berta, her friend and refuge since adolescence, to accompany her and film the trip to Algeria during the month of Ramadan. Together they undo the path that Malika took one day to flee the country, while they explore the possible reconciliation between Soumaya and her mother.

Berta Vicente Salas, Soumaya Hidalgo Djahdou

Soumaya Hidalgo Djahdou (Barcelona, 1993), is a translator and interpreter, specialized in literary and audiovisual translation. She trained in physical and experimental theater at Chroma Teatre and El Laboratorio. In 2021 she develops a documentary project about the disappearance of her grandmother’s Berber dialect and she is awarded the Barcelona CREA Scholarships. The project mutates until it becomes what is today El vol de la cigonya.

Berta Vicente Salas (Barcelona, 1994). Degree in Humanities at the UOC and Master in Documentary Film at the EICTV (Cuba), she is a photographer and filmmaker. collaborator of the Valid Foto Gallery, she has been awarded the Fototalentos awards and the Sony World Photography Award.
